COMMENTS: | Synthesis of the alkyl substituted Criegee biradical intermediate by photolysis (248 nm) of a CH3CHI2-O2-Ar gas mixture and subsequent supersonic expansion; absorption measurements of the isolated CH3CHOO species by electronic excitation of the B 1A′ ← X 1A′
transition using tunable UV laser radiation (280-420 nm). Absorption cross sections have been obtained by personal communication from M. I. Lester and J. M. Beames (July 2013) together with the following remark:
The maximum absorption cross section was estimated at 5 × 10-17 cm2 molecule-1; experimental factors (e.g. homogeneity of the laser beam and laser-molecular beam overlap) suggest that absolute cross section measurements have uncertainties on the order of a factor of 2. |
